كنيسة الملاك ميخائيل

تعد كنيسة الملاك ميخائيل بدمنهور من أقدم الكنائس في مصر، وتشتهر بكونها أيقونة عصر الاستشهاد ومتحف كنوز الفن القبطي. تحتوي الكنيسة على 72 أيقونة تمثل موضوعات من العهد القديم والمسيحي، بما في ذلك البشارة والميلاد والصلب والصعود والملائكة والشهداء.

التاريخ والنشأة

تحتوي الكنيسة على أيقونات يعود بعضها إلى القرن الثاني عشر والثالث عشر للهجرة (القرن الثامن عشر والتاسع عشر الميلادي)، مثل أيقونة الملاك ميخائيل التي سميت الكنيسة باسمه، وأيقونة القديسين بطرس وبولس، وأيقونة الشهيد مارجرجس.

الطراز الفني

تنوعت الأساليب الفنية للأيقونات بين القبطي والأورشليمي واليوناني، ونُفذت بأسلوب التمبرا. تحتوي الأيقونات على كتابات بالخط العربي والأرقام القبطية لتوثيق تاريخ الرسم واسم الرسام، مثل أنسطاسى الرومي.

الموضوعات والرموز

تشمل الموضوعات أيقونات من العهد القديم مثل صعود إيليا إلى السماء، والمواضيع المسيحية مثل البشارة والعذراء والطفل، والصلب والقيامة. كما تتضمن أيقونات للشهداء مثل القديسة دميانة والأربعين قديسة الشهيدات، ورأس القديس يوحنا المعمدان.

Church of the Archangel Michael

The Church of the Archangel Michael in Damanhour is one of the oldest churches in Egypt, known as an icon of the Era of the Martyrs and a museum of Coptic art treasures. The church contains 72 icons representing themes from the Old and Christian Testaments, including the Annunciation, Nativity, Crucifixion, Ascension, angels, and martyrs.

History and Establishment

The church contains icons, some of which date back to the 12th and 13th Hijri centuries (18th and 19th centuries CE), such as the icon of the Archangel Michael, after whom the church is named, the icon of Saints Peter and Paul, and the icon of the Martyr Saint George.

Artistic Style

The artistic styles of the icons vary between Coptic, Jerusalemite, and Greek, and they were executed in the tempera technique. The icons contain inscriptions in Arabic script and Coptic numerals to document the date of painting and the name of the artist, such as Anastasi El Roumi (Anastasi the Roman).

Themes and Symbols

The themes include icons from the Old Testament, such as the Ascension of Elijah to Heaven, and Christian themes like the Annunciation, the Virgin and Child, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection. It also includes icons of martyrs such as Saint Damiana and the Forty Holy Women Martyrs, and the Head of Saint John the Baptist.
