Tel Kom Al-Ghuraf (The Rooms Mound)

An archaeological mound located in Mahmoudiyah Center in Beheira Governorate, also known as "Tel Kom Al-Ghuraf Al-Athari" (The Archaeological Rooms Mound). It is considered one of the most important archaeological mounds in the governorate.

Location and Area

It is located in Mahmoudiyah Center and covers a large area of approximately 104 feddans (acres), making it a significant civilizational site across several eras.

Historical and Civilizational Importance

- Possible capital of the ancient province of "Metelete" in the past.
- Contains ruins from the Pharaonic, Roman, and Coptic periods.
- Remains of a wide residential community with mud-brick dwellings and gates that are part of a Byzantine city.

Archaeological Discoveries

- Buried dwellings and vaulted baths.
- Pottery vessels containing ancient copper pieces.
- Artifacts reflecting the continuity of residential and civilizational importance over thousands of years.

Protection and Development

The area is part of the state's plan for the development and protection of archaeological mounds and is under the supervision of the Antiquities Authority, to ensure the preservation of this historical treasure.
